From Rubbish to Radiance: Our Grantchester Glow-Up
On Thursday, Cambridge Trash Talkers held our inaugural cleanup event along the River Cam, bringing together our team to make a difference for both our environment and mental health awareness.

A Chilly Morning for Change
The sun was truly hiding as our 10 team members gathered (in true British fashion) outside the nearest pub, equipped with gloves, litter pickers, defensive high-vis jackets and a good attitude. After a brief safety talk by our incredible project manager, we ventured out towards the river.
"The connection between a clean environment and mental wellbeing is so important," shared one participant. "Being out here today, I can feel the positive impact on my own mental state while knowing we're making Cambridge more beautiful."
The Impact
After a few hours of hard work, our team had collected 8 bags of litter from the riverbanks. Items ranged from the expected plastic bottles and food wrappers to some surprising finds, including an abandoned broken oar and mismatched pair of socks.
Whilst setting up and cleaning, we took the opportuntiy to talk with local residents and passersby about our mission. Despite a few questions about our sanity (including being asked twice if we were conducting community service), we received a lot of positive feedback and support from the community.
Mental Health Awareness
Throughout the event, we found ourself contemplating the connection between mental health and nature. As we found ourself immersed in the beauty of the area and occasionaly stopped to marvel at its beauty (and snap a few photos)
Looking Forward
While HRSFC Social Action Week may be over, this event marks just the beginning of our campaign. With each cleanup, we aim to raise awareness about both environmental issues and mental health, while raising funds for Mind's vital work in our community.
Having learnt so much we each have our own stories and insights to share. We are excited to continue this journey and invite you to join us in making a difference. Whether it's through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word, every action counts.

Signing off for now
